More Than Just a Wall: Students Create an Eco Changemakers Community Mural

Creativity met sustainability as our students worked together to transform a blank wall into a vibrant mural that now supports outdoor learning and environmental education.

A blank wall has been transformed into one of the most colourful and meaningful spaces on campus, thanks to the creativity, teamwork and dedication of our students.

As part of the ISP ILOS Eco Changemakers programme, students at Tenby Schools Setia Eco Park came together to design and create a vibrant community mural that celebrates sustainability while enhancing outdoor learning for future generations of learners.

The project began with a student drawing competition, inviting learners to share their ideas for a mural inspired by environmental sustainability. The winning concepts were thoughtfully combined into one final design, featuring themes such as the water cycle, pollination, composting, renewable energy and healthy eating. Together, these elements tell the story of how small actions can contribute to a healthier and more sustainable world.

The mural was much more than an art project. Throughout the process, students took ownership of every stage of the initiative. They helped plan the design, organise materials, consider health and safety requirements, coordinate activities and even presented progress updates during school assemblies. The experience gave students valuable opportunities to develop leadership, collaboration and project management skills while working towards a shared goal.

Over six days, the mural gradually came to life through the collective efforts of students, teachers, parents from the Tenby Schools Parent Association (TSPA), our maintenance team, secondary student volunteers and local street artist Mr Lee, whose expertise helped bring the students' vision to reality.

Today, the mural serves as more than a beautiful piece of artwork. It has become an interactive outdoor learning space where students can explore sustainability concepts during Science and IPC lessons, making learning more engaging and connecting classroom knowledge with the world around them.

The Eco Changemakers journey is far from over. Inspired by the success of the mural, students are already planning their next initiative—transforming the school's edible garden into another exciting hands-on learning space that will continue to promote sustainability, environmental stewardship and student leadership.

At Tenby Schools Setia Eco Park, we believe meaningful learning happens when students are empowered to take action, collaborate with their community and make a positive impact. The Eco Changemakers Community Mural is a lasting reminder that even the simplest ideas can grow into something truly extraordinary.
