Bringing Sabah's Culture to Life The Cultural Immersion Workshop was organised by Mr Shawn, who lived in Sabah for three years and developed a deep appreciation for the state's people, customs, and traditions. Inspired by his experiences, he invited Ms Daniela, a former coach and now a marketing professional, to share her knowledge and passion for Sabah with our students. Throughout the session, students discovered the unique cultures and communities that make Sabah one of Malaysia's most diverse states. Through storytelling, cultural artefacts, and personal experiences, they gained valuable insights into the traditions that continue to shape everyday life in the Land Below the Wind. Learning Through Food, Dance and Experience The workshop encouraged students to experience culture beyond textbooks. They sampled authentic Sabahan delicacies while learning about the stories and significance behind each dish. Students also learned the traditional Sumazau dance, moving together to the rhythm of Sabah's music and experiencing one of the state's most recognisable cultural traditions. These interactive activities allowed students to connect with Sabah's heritage in a memorable and engaging way. Building Respect for Malaysia's Cultural Diversity As part of the Pendidikan Moral and Pendidikan Agama curriculum, the workshop reinforced important values such as respect, empathy, unity and appreciation for cultural diversity. By exploring the traditions of Sabah, students developed a greater understanding of the many cultures that make Malaysia unique. Experiences like these help nurture open-minded, respectful individuals who value different perspectives and celebrate the country's rich multicultural heritage.
