The TENBY SCHOOLS GROUP operates international and private schools in Malaysia; currently in Ipoh, Penang, Setia Eco Park, Miri, Setia Eco Gardens, and Setia EcoHill. A new campus located in Tropicana Aman set to open in September 2018. Each campus provides for both primary and secondary international schools. The campuses in Ipoh, Penang, Setia Eco Park, Miri and Setia Eco Gardens also provide for National private schools following the Malaysian curriculum.
All Tenby Schools campuses are housed in purpose-buit facilities.
Tenby Schools Ipoh (Perak) opened in a new campus in September 2013. The campus is located in Bandar Meru Raya on the edge of the city. In addition to the new campus there is a separate Early Years Centre in the centre of the city. There are approximately 1,500 students at the Bandar Meru Raya Campus and a further 150 students at the Early Years Centre.
Tenby Schools Setia Eco Park (Setia Alam) is located in a purpose built campus on the edge of Shah Alam. The campus opened in 2008 and was extended in 2012 to make provision for the rapidly increasing school roll, which is now at approximately 2,000 students. The campus now provides for two thousand students from Early Years to Sixth Form.
Tenby Schools Penang moved to a new campus in Tanjung Bungah in September 2011. This enabled the extension of the international school from secondary only to the full age range (Early Years, Primary and Secondary including the Sixth Form in September 2013).
Tenby Schools Miri (Sarawak) opened in September 2011 in the premises of the former Piasau Primary School. The school moved into a new campus in the Senadin area of the city in September 2013 and now provides for students from Early Years to Year 11 as well as National private school with approximately 200 students on roll.
Tenby Schools Setia Eco Gardens (Johor Bahru) commenced operation in January 2013, offering an international student-centered programme for Early Years, Primary and Secondary students. The school also offers Malaysian National Curriculum starting with Secondary Level. There are currently over 500 students at the School.
Tenby International School Setia EcoHill (Semenyih) is the latest Tenby campus, opened in September 2016. Located in Setia EcoHill residential area, the School offers international student-centered programme from Early Years up to Secondary Levels. The impressive 15-acre purpose-built campus will continue to grow in the future.
Tenby International School Tropicana Aman (Kota Kemuning) is the latest Tenby campus set to open in September 2018. This new school is designed, from inception, to meet the educational needs of 21st Century learners in a lush, spacious and conducive environment of Tropicana Aman within the vicinity of Kota Kemuning, Selangor. The School offers international curriculum for students from Early Years up to the Secondary Levels. Both primary and secondary schools are located on a 10-acre purpose-built campus with 1,800 student capacity, fully equipped with modern teaching and learning facilities.
The schools therefore vary in size and in age. However each school now occupies modern purpose built facilities with specialist accommodation for sciences, design-technology and the arts as well as sports facilities including a multi-purpose sports hall, basketball courts, tennis courts and swimming pool.
All the Tenby international schools follow a British style curriculum. The International Primary Curriculum (IPC) forms the core provision in the primary schools. At secondary level, courses lead to CIE IGCSE examinations at the end of Year 11. CIE Checkpoint Tests are taken at the end of Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3. At present there is post-16 provision through CIE A Level and AS Level courses in Ipoh, Setia Eco Park and Penang.
The national private schools in Ipoh, Penang, Setia Eco Park, Miri and Setia Eco Gardens follow the Malaysian National Curriculum leading to the UPSR examinations at the end of the primary school and SPM at the end of secondary education. There is an emphasis in the national schools on developing bilingualism in Malay and English. As science and mathematics are now both delivered through the medium of Malay in order to meet national requirements, extension classes in science and mathematics are also provided in English.
Tenby is therefore a rapidly developing educational organization. To make a Tenby education available to as many as possible within the community, fees are set at a level which is affordable to a wide range of expatriate and Malaysian families. This is achieved by means of careful control of expenditure and the appointment of a combination of expatriate and local teachers supported by a strong emphasis on teacher training and development. The aim is to make high quality international education and private Malaysian education available to all.
The leadership structure of schools within the group differs from campus to campus, partly as an accident of history, but also to reflect the size, culture and organization of the schools.
In most of our campuses, there is a Campus Principal who has overall responsibility for the operations and academic programme. The Campus Principal is working with Heads of School who have direct responsibility for the teaching staff, students and academic programme of the individual school. The Campus Principal and Heads of School together with the Bursar form the senior leadership team of the campus.
The Campus Principal is directly accountable to the School Board and the Chief Executive Officer of Tenby Schools Group. There is a School Board for each campus, equivalent to a governing body, and consisting of school leaders, members of the parental community and representatives of the Tenby Group. The Campus Principal of each campus together with the senior officers of the Tenby Group form the Executive Committee. This is chaired by the Chief Executive Officer and is the major policy making forum for the group (subject to approval of the Board of Tenby Educare Sdn Bhd, the holding company for all the schools). In this way the group aims to achieve a balance between individual school autonomy and group wide policies necessary to support benchmarking and the fulfillment of the Group’s vision and mission
