Tenby International School (TIS), Miri opened in 2011 and is the fourth member of the Tenby Schools Group. Tenby Schools was selected by Sarawak Shell Berhad to start an international school in Miri to provide international school education to the community of Miri, Sarawak. TIS Miri currently offers classes from Early Years up to Secondary (Y11), and moved to new purpose-built facilities in Senadin in September 2013.
In 2017, Tenby Schools Miri operates two schools on its campus – an International School that follows the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), the National Curriculum for England and the Cambridge IGCSE programme, as well as a Malaysian Private School following the Malaysian Curriculum. This enables students from the different educational programmes to interact with each other and cultivates a true understanding of one another. The Malaysian Private School (Sekolah Sri Tenby) currently offers the Malaysian National Curriculum for Standards 1 to 6 and Form 1 to open in January 2020.
The School is licensed by the Ministry of Education, Malaysia (number YUBK001) and is also registered as a centre for Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) (Centre Number MY 381).
Our campus is fully-enclosed with 24/7 security and a single point-of-entry, a 25m six-lane competition-standard swimming pool, basketball, netball and tennis courts and a full-size soccer field with smaller youth and instructional spaces.
The purpose-built Primary and Secondary blocks are linked by pedestrian boulevards, which also link the administration block with the student cafeteria, nurse’s office and sick bay, school shop, library and offices, and the Performing Arts block, which is home to Music classrooms and practice rooms, a Drama studio and Auditorium.
The Lower Primary block is composed of Early Years (Nursery & Reception) classrooms on the ground floor and Milepost 1 (Years 1 and 2) classrooms occupy the upper floor. Each Early Years class has an adjoining toilet and hand washing facilities as well as indoor / outdoor teaching and learning spaces. All rooms open onto teaching / learning activity areas for collaborative activities, displays and extensions to what occurs inside the classrooms.
The Upper Primary and Secondary block features thoughtfully-designed and fully-equipped classrooms as well as well-resourced Science laboratories, an Information and Computing Technology ("ICT") room and a specialist Design and Technology ("DT") room. It also has a large indoor teaching and learning space, and wide breezy passageways to take advantage of Senadin’s cooling breezes.
