Teaching of Science & Mathematics in English following Malaysian Curriculum

The table above shows the introduction of the new Malaysian Curriculum for KSSR in 2011 with Std 1 and KSSM in 2012 with Form 1.
Science & Mathematics are taught in English from Std 4 onwards till Form 5.

For Std 1-3, with the introduction of KSSR, teaching of Science & Mathematics is done bilingually i.e. for Mathematics (7periods/week): 4 /5 periods (Bahasa) and 3/2 periods (English)

The RIC Activity Books in English are compiled from Australian published books by our Group Teachers for teaching Mathematics Std 1-3 and for Science Std 1-3.
For Secondary, these two subjects continue to be taught in English from Form 1 to 5.
For Sciences, the practical assessments for each examination are listed below:-

Approaches to the teaching & learning of Science are Interactive through Scientific Investigation to stimulate application of concepts learned in a new environment. Precise and appropriate terms or keywords and correct units are stressed daily for students to present ideas in the correct context.

For Mathematics, the approach is through fun activities which guide students to think creatively out of the box to solve problems.

Where ever necessary and related for both Science & Mathematics, children will be brought outside the borders of the classroom to do experiential learning.

Lego Education-Innovation Studio

Lego Education was introduced into the ICT Curriculum of Lower Primary (Std 1-3) at the start of 2013 since Term 1 once in two weeks for a double period. By mid-2013, all Primary classes will be following the LEGO curriculum once in every two weeks conducted by their ICT Teachers

Innovation Studio can lift Science and Mathematics from the pages of a textbook and bring them to life.

The Studio provides a unique ’hands-on’, minds-on ’environment that supports and enriches the entire learning process. It’s a focus point for innovation and creativity in schools and facilitate core subject teaching as well as 21st century skills such as critical thinking and collaboration. Teachers deliver projects and subject-specific lessons centred on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)
