Sekolah Tenby

Ipoh

Introduction

Students in SR and SM Tenby follow the Malaysian National Curriculum. They sit the UPSR (Std 6), PMR (Form 3) and SPM (Form 5) examinations conducted by the Malaysian Examinations Syndicate as their counterparts do in government schools. The similarities between government schools and Tenby Schools end there.

Integration of the English and National Curriculum

The Primary School Curriculum from KBSR 2 to KBSR 6 is an integration of the Malaysian and English Curriculum. Our students have been trained to sit for UPSR and CIPAT and they have achieved good grades in both CIPAT and UPSR. From 2012 they will sit for UPSR and Checkpoint.

The teachers in SR and SM Tenby are trained and experienced teachers who are familiar with both the Malaysian and English Syllabus for English, Mathematics and Science. They understand the needs of the students and are able to offer differentiated lessons.

Bahasa Melayu is taught as a first language and the standard of Bahasa is on par with the standard in a good Sekolah Kebangsaan (Government School). A number of subjects are taught in Bahasa Melayu and these subjects help enhance the students’ fluency in the language.

English Language

English is taught as a first language. Until 2011 Singapore textbooks were used. From 2012 both IIS and SR Tenby will use the same textbooks – Collins – and the standard of English taught and learned in the two schools will not be different. The common language of communication in the National Schools among students and teachers, is English which is very widely spoken here.

Mathematics and Science – An Integrated Curriculum

The content of the Maths and Science lessons comprise all topics required by the Malaysian Curriculum and the English Curriculum. The method of teaching, learning and testing is also an integration of the two streams. Students actively participate in various creative learning activities.
