Eco Gardens International School will open in a new campus at present under construction in January 2013. The school is situated in SP Setias Setia Eco Gardens township part of the Iskandar Development Zone in Johor. The development of Iskandar at the southern tip of peninsular Malaysia adjacent to Singapore is a national programme, which is attracting major international as well as national investment. Eco Gardens International School will provide an international curriculum for both expatriate and Malaysian students.
Eco Gardens International School is the latest addition to the Tenby Schools group, which operates international and private Malaysian schools across Malaysia. There are currently Tenby Schools in Ipoh, Penang, Setia Eco Park (Shah Alam) and Miri.
The school will offer an international student-centred programme for students from Early Years up to the pre-university level (age 3 to 18). The primary and secondary school will be operating on the same campus. There are no immediate plans to open a Malaysian Curriculum School. The curriculum and staffing of the school will follow the same pattern as the existing Tenby Schools, though in due time when provision is extended to pre-university level the IB diploma rather than A Levels may be provided.
Unlike other Tenby Schools, The school will operate on the southern hemisphere school year, beginning in January and ending in December.
Our aim in opening of this new school is to bring the opportunity of high quality international education at affordable fees to the community of Eco Gardens, Johor. The new school is modelled on the highly successful Tenby International School in Setia Eco Park, Selangor.
The Primary School
The Primary School will adopt the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) at Key Stage 1 and 2 (Early Years and Primary). This is taught in English and is based on the latest approaches in teaching and learning. It follows a child-centred thematic approach but with rigorous assessment ensuring that each child not only enjoys his/her schooling but also attains the highest possible standard.
The curriculum aims to achieve high standards in English literacy, mathematics, science and humanities whilst also providing young children with the opportunity of developing skills in the arts and technology. External assessment at the end of primary education is administered by Cambridge International Examinations (CIE).
The Secondary School
At Key Stage 3 (Year 7 to 9), the school follows the National Curriculum for England appropriately modified for international students. All students study the core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science and Information Communication Technology (ICT) together with Geography, History, Design-Technology, Music, Drama, PE, Art and Modern Foreign Languages (MFL). External assessment at the end of Key Stage 3 is through the Checkpoint tests administered by CIE.
In Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11), students choose from a range of subjects from the Languages, Humanities & Social Sciences, Sciences, Mathematics and Creative, Technical Vocational groups, leading to the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) examinations. The IGCSE is an internationally renowed and recognised qualification for further education.
Note: Changes to the curriculum and subjects offered may vary from term to term. The school reserves the right to make the required adjustments as and when necessary.
