Tenby International School is a multicultural school with students all over the world. Coming into a new environment can seem very intimidating for anyone especially for those that lack in English. Our ESL Department aims to bridge that gap between native and non-native English speakers.

We offer intensive ESL lessons to primary and secondary second language students. The goal is to not only prepare students to be successful in the mainstream classroom, but to also build their self-confidence and to help them develop life-long skills.

New applicants first go through the CAT4 assessment and will be determined from that scores if are suitable candidate for the ESL program. ESL students will also be tested regularly to track their progress. They are assessed on their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. There are 5 levels altogether with 1 being the lowest. When a student reaches Level 5, they are ready to exit the program and will then join the mainstream classroom. Students are also supported after school if needed.
