A new milestone in Perak and International education began on March 2nd as ground was broken for the construction of Tenby Schools Ipoh’s new campus which will be located at Bandar Meru Raya. The 13-acre site, which will house a brand new Malaysian primary and secondary school, and an International School, is scheduled to open in September 2013. With the purpose-built campus, the new school will feature specialist laboratories, an expressive arts centre, a sports complex with swimming pool, basketball and tennis courts, a multi-purpose hall, modern library and air-conditioned classrooms fitted with interactive white boards.
“Today we are building on Dato’ KK Lim’s legacy in education,” said Dato’ Lim Si Boon, Director of Tenby Schools Malaysia. “Together we are making an investment that will benefit our school children and communities for generations to come. This is also an infrastructure to attract returning Perakeans and investors to Perak.” Lim also spoke about the journey that first began in 2004 when his late father, Dato’ KK Lim, first took over the school. Together with a group of teachers under the helm of Mdm Lee Yam Sei, Tenby Schools Ipoh has expanded from a student population of three hundred to over a thousand today, and more than three thousand collectively in Ipoh, Penang, Shah Alam and Miri.

The guest of honour in attendance was the Chief Minister of Perak, Dato’ Seri DiRaja Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir, who praised the management and board of the school for their efforts in expanding a home-grown brand in education throughout the country.

More than 200 guests, including school children and parents, teachers and staff, board members, government and community representatives, gathered in a colourfully decorated tent on the site of the future school. The event began with primary and secondary school children from the school’s choir perform a repertoire of four songs, conducted by Ms Yeoh Choo Swee.

The highlight of the event was when shovels were brought out to symbolically break the ground for Tenby Schools Ipoh by the stakeholders, board of directors and director of the school. The crowd cheered and a burst of confetti added to the celebrative atmosphere as they dug their shovels into the earth.
