OUR IRELAND EXPERIENCE

From L-R: Maizura, Puvanes, Florence and Poones

Four teachers from Tenby Schools Malaysia are currently in Ireland undergoing a three-month Certificate in Learning and Teaching course, specially developed by the Tenby Educare Group together with Stranmillis University College, Queen’s University Belfast. Below is an excerpt of their experience in Ireland.

"On 8th September 2008, we arrived at Stranmillis University College ( a College of Queen’s University Belfast) to attend the Certificate in Learning and Teaching course. The objective of this course is to enable each one of us achieve greater levels of competence, experience and knowledge to become more proficient classroom practitioners. Two weeks later into the course, we began spending one day a week in two primary schools where we were required to undertake some observation tasks related to classroom practice and engage in small group activities and class teaching. Maizura and Poones were placed in Newtonards Model Primary School and Florence Wong and I were sent to Castle Gardens Primary School, Newtonards. At the schools, we were required to teach some lessons during our Block Practice or School Placement. Through this experience, we not only gain theoretical perspectives on the latest teaching methods, but have the opportunity to put into practice what we have learnt by teaching at the schools.

During our time here, we also have made several field trips in relation to our Geography and History studies and these have been interesting and worthwhile. With supportive and encouraging tutors who have been guiding us throughout the course, we hope to accomplish our mission successfully and bring back with us experiences and knowledge to share with our fellow colleagues back in Malaysia."
