Co-Curriculum Activities Programme for Lower Junior Students
Class based Activities

Introduction

This programme teaches simple life skills to the lower junior students (KBSR 2 and 3, Years 3 and 4) as it is designed to develop basic living skills of the students over a 2 year period and thus equipping them to be further challenged in the upper junior years.

What do the students learn?

  • Simple basic life skills through art/craft and food/nutrition activities
  • To work with their hands and use the equipment in the Tool Kit
  • To take care of their Tool Kit
  • To listen and follow instructions
  • To use their creativity and imagination in their projects and
  • To be on task and take pride in their work.

What are the activities?

The activities and the basic skills to be learnt are:

Needlework
  • sewing basic stitches – running, cross, bone, fly
  • sewing buttons
Greeting Cards cutting, pasting, pressing
Craft / Decoration pasting, arranging, wrapping, pressing
Food and Nutrition pouring, mixing, cutting, spreading, serving, washing

Who teaches the activities?

Homeroom teachers / Form Teachers teach their classes. Teachers are also encouraged to work in teams, each specialising in an area, and cross teaching to each others’ classes.

When are the activities held?

The activities are conducted as part of the students’ Extra-Curricular Activities Programme for Lower Junior during the first period on Fridays.

Are the students provided with any tools and materials?

The school provides the Tool Kit which consists of: an A4 document case, a pair of scissors, a cutter, a pencil, a ruler, an eraser and a palette. The Kit is on loan to the students for 2 years. At the first lesson and at all times, the usage of the equipment is taught and supervised by the teachers. There is a checklist in each Kit and should any items be missing or lost, they must be replaced by the students. The items can be bought from the Administration Office.

Materials are provided for the students throughout the year. But from time to time, students may be asked to bring recyclable items, for example, toilet / paper rolls, dried flowers, magazines etc. for their projects.

How are the students’ work evaluated?

Students are evaluated in their work upon completion according to a set of assessment rubrics. The School values students’ effort and hard work in their projects. Students will be given the opportunity to exhibit their works at any appropriate event / function.
