Information for applicants for Teaching posts

The School

The Tenby Educare Group is a rapidly expanding group of schools currently operating International and Private Schools in Penang and Ipoh.

Due to the continued expansion of the Group, a brand new school has opened in September 2008 in Shah Alam, the royal town of Selangor, situated about 20 minutes drive from Kuala Lumpur. Tenby International School, Shah Alam occupies new purpose built facilities on a 14 acre campus which is part of the award winning Setia Eco-Park housing and community development. The school?s well equipped facilities include a sports complex with swimming pool, basketball and tennis courts, a football field, music, drama and art studios, a multipurpose hall, an auditorium, science, computer and design & technology laboratories and a library. All classrooms are air-conditioned and have internet access, digital projectors and interactive whiteboards. All teachers are provided with laptops.

The Curriculum
The school offers a balanced academic and co-curricular programme with the aim of developing independent, creative- thinking and responsible students. The medium of instruction in the school is English and it follows the National Curriculum of England appropriately adapted for an international context. This is delivered by means of the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) in the primary school. The school opened in September with students from nursery to year 9. Key stage 4 classes leading to IGCSE examinations will commence in September 2009. It is intended to introduce a sixth form later. Classes are small (maximum 25) and a mix of ex-patriate and local teachers are employed. There is an extensive range of co-curricular activities in which all students are expected to participate. The school is registered with Cambridge International Examinations (CIE). Students will be assessed through the Cambridge International Primary Achievement Tests at the end of Key stage 2 and the Cambridge Checkpoint Tests at the end of Key Stage 3, prior to IGCSE courses at Key Stage 4.

Malaysia
A culturally rich and diverse country, Malaysia is politically stable and safe. Bahasa Malaysia is the national language but English is very widely spoken. There are excellent communications both within the country and with other parts of Asia and Australia. For those who enjoy travelling, Malaysia is an excellent hub with relatively low-cost air-fares (particularly by Air Asia) to all parts of South East Asia and beyond. Within the country, the National parks provide the world?s oldest surviving tropical rain forests whilst the coast and off-shore islands provide excellent beaches and some spectacular diving locations.

Kuala Lumpur - A modern metropolis
Kuala Lumpur itself is a very modern city with international standard facilities. The city centre is some thirty minutes drive from the school. There are excellent shopping facilities varying from the many large shopping malls with international retailers such as Ikea, Marks & Spencer and Tesco?, to local morning and night markets where fresh produce can be bought very cheaply. The cost of living is generally much lower than in Europe.

A vibrant, happening place
The city also has a very flourishing night-life with a wide range of bars, clubs and cinemas. The range of restaurants is quite amazing. Most Malaysians ?eat out? to a far greater extent than in the UK and are used to enjoying a wide variety of cuisine at low costs. There is a large and varied expatriate population with many clubs and organizations. There are opportunities for playing most sports including some excellent golf courses.
